Sheepy began his military career in the Royal Air force and passed out of basic and trade training at the top of his class. After completing his Flight Operations training he moved to his first post in mainland UK. Within the year he was finding the job increasingly less of a challenge and so applied for a post with the Tactical Air Traffic section (TACATC) at RAF Brize Norton, Wilts (a sub section of Tactical Communications Wing). After completing P Company (para training) he was attached to the US Marines Force Reccon for 6mths where he served with them in a number of theatres including South America and the gulf. On completion of the exchange tour Sheepy was sent to ?Bandit Country? Northern Ireland where he served along side many army Regiments, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines.
At the end of an 18mth tour in NI Sheepy returned to RAF Brize Norton and took post as SNCO IC TACATC. In Sept 2000 Sheepy was seconded to 22SAS to assist with forward air controller training, although not a member of the SAS he did accompany them on a number of operations in areas such as Sieara Leone, Kosavo and the Gulf and trained with them on a regular basis. In March 2001 he completed both the HALO and HAHO jump courses.
He spent the reminder of his British military career there until June 2004 when he was approached by IRU. |
